Prepare for some challenging events
Although this game has the name of the legendary Olympic British equestrian rider Mary King, you won’t see her in the game. And besides her horse’s name is also on the cover, the horse that you play also isn’t her horse Star, unfortunately. That would be really nice but instead you play has a young girl named Sara. She is visiting for the first time the stable that her mother owns while she meets Jim that will show her around the stable. And that’s the entire story. From now on you’ll just groom your horse and take it to events.
You’ll learn how to groom the horse in the very beginning of the game and with the help of Jim. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed with this part of the game. It is very basic, although it’s very important because it increases your horse’s stamina and if you don’t do it in the right time, you’ll have many difficulties to compete. The grooming part in this game is basically just erasing things. For example, you erase the hay from the stable floor and the mane hairs out of place and so on. And for what should be picking the hooves, you just “paint” them black. This section of the game is really disappointing and very unrealistic especially because you only clean your horse on the right side!
As this is a competition game, you’ll have several three day events. Each of these events has competitions of dressage, Cross Country and Show Jumping. In each competition you can control the horses speed, direction and when it jumps. I found the Dressage tournament particularly challenging because the game doesn’t explained what the symbol around the path mean, so you’ll just have to figure that out by yourself. Fortunately you can do some training in all of the events and familiarize with the gameplay. In the end of each event you’ll unlock the next one and so on, until you reach the end of the game. The difficulty increases but the general aspect of the game stays the same.
Although the game doesn’t have nice graphics and looks really simple, don’t think that it is easy, because it’s not. You need to have the right timing to jump and in dressage it will be hard to follow a straight line like it’s suppose. Besides that, this game could have some potential but it’s just something that can entertain you for a few hours and that’s it.
